This is quite a spectacular Stratocaster... a completely original Fullerton-era strat reissue. Typically, the American-made
1982-1984 classic reissues are known as the "Fullerton" models because they have deeper body routing and more
pronounced curves. However, many 1986 and 1987 reissues made at the Corona factory used parts that were brought
over from the Fullerton factory. This guitar is a perfect example of that. Not only does it have the "Fullerton" body, but it
also is one of the earliest of Fullerton bodies. The story goes that the very first reissues made did not quite fit the
pickguard assemblies that were being made, so the luthiers had to hand-chisel the body next to the switch so that the
pickguards would fit. This was only done on a few of the very earliest ones, before they changes the CNC machine
settings for body routing and the placement of the switch. I have 3 of these in the exact same finish... this early one with
the body chiseling, another with a rare double-finish (only found on the Fullertons) and the correct '88 model with the
new body contouring. All 3 represent a fascinating look into early Fullerton/Corona reissue production techniques.
This particular guitar sported the signature of Jimmy Vaughan until I had it recently removed. I know, I know... but the
guitar is as close to mint condition now as when it had the final screw put in back in '87.
