1990s KAWAI Super E MoonSault, Metallic Gold Flake w/OHSC $2,450.00
|

You are looking at the most valuable, most rare, of all Kawai MoonSaults. The Super E model was the most expensive, hand-made version ever to come out of
their luthier's custom shop. I don't remember the exact story on this one, but it goes something like... there was a famous Japanese dancer/musician who played
this style guitar and I think he died back in the late 1980s. Kawai decided to commemorate his life by adding him to the headstock of this special model, and, as I
understand it, he is upside down because he is no longer living. If you know more about this story, please let me know. It is fascinating to me and I'd like to get the
story straight and documented.
Anyway, this particular model is in 9.8/10 condition. There is one very tiny paint chip on the back edge that you can feel, but really can't see. I tried to show it but
it can't be picked up by my camera it's so invisible. Otherwise, there is a little hazing of the gold-plated bridge and tuners, but is as perfect as one of these can be
for the age... it comes snugly in its original custom-made flight case. As far as guitars go, it may be a little difficult to hold in your lap, but strap this guitar on and
you will find out that it really does outperform nearly any other electric you could ever put it up against in a shootout. Playability-wise and tone-wise.
The electronics are second to none, and there are more passive and active pickup configurations than you'll know what to do with, due to the coil-tapping that is
wired in and the v-volt-powered boost switch. For those of you who don't know, this means that you can switch between single-coil and humbucking tone for each
pickup. Add a gain-boost switch. This guitar creates some serious, serious tone.
Most people don't know this, but Kawai has been building guitars for around 60 years. I just wish they would build more guitars like this one. I brought a Moonsault
over to Scott Lentz of Lentz guitars and he was just blown away, he told me, "John, you have to open a museum for people to see guitars like this, they'd come
from all over just to get the chance to see such amazing instruments." Then he told me how a great a company they were and what quality they put into their
instruments. I was surprised because, when I saw the guitar, I wanted it for it's unusual and unique shape, I didn't realize until playing it what a great guitar it is!
